As I entered the staff room, I knew what to expect. Teachers could be seen rushing with their respective work. Some were sharing about the current issues. Politics, corruption, gossip. Something familiar which you can see almost everyday.
I headed over to the teacher's desk. A lady around her 50s, was seated right before her place. Her name was Madam Chee, probably one of the most respected teachers in that room.
On her table was a huge load of exercise books, stacked in many piles. She was marking and grading her students' work. She seemed stressed and frustrated, but she was dedicated to her job. I left the books that I held within my hands by her side. She dropped her pen.
'You know, Gabriel'
I was startled.
'Sometimes, I just wish that all of these would turn into money. That would be a joy.'
I chuckled. She seemed to be the only lady I know who can joke while feeling so blue, but I didn't say anything. It's not that anything I say can ease her pain. Without giving a second thought, I began, 'Is there anything else?'
'No, that's all for now. Again, thanks Gabriel.'
Funny. There's something about her that makes me like her. It must be her stunning personality, I guess. Just then, she impressed me.
The mid-term examinations is just a week away. For some, it has already begun, and I heard that it wasn't easy for them.
Well, best of luck to all. I'm done for. Returning to the books, again. Let's do this!
Nothing I say would change anything.
